The Transportation Worker Identification Credential is a maritime port security program to ensure unaccompanied access to American ports is granted only to those who have been vetted and issued with a card. The card itself is based on biometric parameters including fingerprint and face recognition. The program is run by the Transportation Security Administration under the wing of the Department of Homeland Security with enrolment and reader testing taking place during 2007-2008 and completion of roll-out scheduled for 2009
