The Federation Against Software Theft is supporting a conference being held in London this week to raise awareness of open source licensing

Not-for-profit technology organisations FAST IiS, Intellect and Grid Computing Now, are staging an inaugural Open Source Licensing conference to highlight the business potential and improve understanding of open source software. It will take place on Thursday, 17th September 2009 at Intellect’s London offices, and involve seminars, talks and a plenary session.

Software business users, developers and resellers are invited to attend and learn from experts in the IT industry, including leading analysts, on best practise methods. The conference will also allow guests to gather tips from Open Source and proprietary software publishers to help them understand how Open Source software fits into a wider IT estate.

John Lovelock, Chief Executive for FAST IiS said, “Our partnership with Intellect and Grid Computing NOW aims to reach out to demystify the issues that surround software licensing for the enterprise. Given the widespread popularity of open source technology, we believe that aspiring software developers and prospective users need to be educated. The Conference follows on from our joint conference with Intellect on Software as a Service event in March and will be followed by further programmes designed to aid end users in their software use.”

FAST IiS is the UK not-for-profit organisation that works to promote the legitimate use of software through education, enforcement, lobbying and promoting standards and best practice in business. FAST IiS offers guidance and best practice advice which enables organisations to reduce software licensing spend, become compliant with copyright law and turn their software into a source of competitive advantage.
