VPN Firewall Brick from Alcatel-Lucent receives accreditation for use in Federal applications
LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent has announced that the Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall Brick 50, 150, 700, and 1200 systems have received the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 validation. FIPS 140-2 validation is a requirement for any cryptographic product used by US Federal Government organizations in the protection of sensitive or valuable data. Government users demand extremely secure, certified solutions. The FIPS 140-2 validation program provides users an added layer of confidence that the Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall Brick delivers a high degree of security, assurance and dependability, meeting stringent certification requirements. The entire Alcatel-Lucent security portfolio is sold to US government customers through the LGS subsidiary. The Alcatel-Lucent VPN Firewall Bricks are security appliances that integrate application layer inspection, firewall functionality with advanced VPN capabilities for small-office through data-center requirements. The portfolio delivers security for mission-critical IP applications to headquarter employees, branch offices, trading partners, mobile workers and customers. The FIPS 140-2 standard is a joint effort by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States, and the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), under the Canadian government. The Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP), headed by NIST, provides module and algorithm testing for FIPS 140-2, which applies to Federal agencies using validated cryptographic modules to protect sensitive government data in computer and telecommunication systems. FIPS 140-2 provides stringent third-party assurance of security claims on any product containing cryptography that may be purchased by a government agency.
