Survey by eSoft of its SiteFilter coverage indicates that of a typical 1000 URLs visited by its customers, 999 are already categorised in its filtering software
ESoft has announced that its SiteFilter technology has reached a major milestone with an unprecedented 99.9% of the websites visited by its users categorised in the SiteFilter database. Rather than needlessly crawling websites users don’t visit, eSoft uses its Distributed Intelligence Architecture (DIA) to identify and dynamically classify the new websites users are actually visiting. This makes eSoft’s database the most comprehensive URL “coverage” database available today. Using data from DIA, eSoft’s Threat Prevention Team reports that, on average, 999 out of 1,000 URLs visited by users are already categorised in the database. DIA utilises a number of patent-pending technologies to perform automatic, real time categorisation of websites in multiple languages, in addition to its team of professional Web Analysts who perform day-to-day research and review specific websites as needed. eSoft’s SiteFilter URL database currently includes over 120 million URLs that cover billions of web pages. eSoft combines coverage with a strong security focus, providing scanning and analysis of websites for viruses, trojans, and infections as well as reputation services and immediate protection against malicious sites, anonymisers, phishing sites and other forms of Web 2.0 attacks that other solutions, firewalls, spam filters, and antivirus systems simply won’t stop. Through DIA, updates of new malicious sites occur in real-time so that customers don’t have the typical lag time between a new threat and deployed protection. “The combination of SiteFilter and DIA makes for powerful website filtering technology,” said Patrick Walsh, eSoft’s Director of Product Management and Marketing. “We’ve tapped the extensive, worldwide network of users directly and indirectly using eSoft technology to identify and categorise new websites and threats. Our targeted, security-oriented approach to URL filtering puts us well ahead of the industry curve.”
