Founder of Sourcefire named as one of top 100 influential people in the IT industry by eWeek.
Open source innovator and Snort creator, Sourcefire has announced that company founder and CTO Martin Roesch was named to eWeek’s Top 100 Most Influential People in IT list, which also includes industry luminaries Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, Steve Ballmer, and Michael Dell. Ziff Davis Enterprise editors selected individuals who are on the leading edge of technology development; those who are not only building products, but shaping the culture of information technology. Compiled by the editorial staff of eWeek and sister publications CIO Insight and Baseline, the list recognises individuals with a tangible track record of IT success, far-reaching influence, and the ability to effect change and a deep level of engagement in developing emerging technologies. “When I created Snort, I knew that it surpassed some of the leading commercial solutions, but I had no idea that it would have such a profound impact on the security industry,” said Martin Roesch, CTO of Sourcefire and Creator of Snort. “I am honored that the Ziff Davis editors included me on such a prestigious list of information technology innovators, and I want to also recognise the efforts of everyone at Sourcefire and within the Snort community for their dedication and support.” Martin Roesch has a long history of identifying real-world challenges and developing solutions that address those exact needs, delivering innovative technologies that consistently change the way users protect their networks and assets. In 1998 he developed Snort, which quickly became the world's most widely deployed Intrusion Detection and Prevention technology with more than 188,000 active users and over three million downloads to date. Snort is the de facto standard for intrusion detection and prevention and used by 99% of the Fortune 100. More than 65 vendors have also incorporated the Snort Engine and Snort rules into commercial products, such as Unified Threat Management (UTM) systems. Based on Martin's leadership, Sourcefire is consistently recognised for its innovation and industry leadership with more than 30 awards and accolades to date. Most recently, Snort was named “Best Network Security” by the SC Magazine Awards 2008 Europe, and Deloitte named Sourcefire one of the fastest growing technology companies in North America. In addition, Sourcefire RUA was named a 2007 Tomorrow's Technology Today Award winner by Info Security Products Guide, and the company's leading open source security solutions, Snort and ClamAV were both named InfoWorld Bossie Award winners. |
