Senior manager at G4S events gains first hand knowledge of the challenge of guarding by taking operational part in securing the Wimbledon event

Mark Hamilton Managing Director of G4S Events, the UK’s leading event security provider, has returned to the coal face this summer, working alongside G4S security officers at The Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

Mark, who has headed G4S Events since the company’s acquisition of Rocksteady in 2008, performed bag and perimeter searches, player escorting duties, ticket checking and anti-touting surveillance alongside the 700 G4S officers employed at one of the biggest sporting events of the summer.

Mark Hamilton, Managing Director, G4S Events, who has been involved in the security and crowd safety management industry since 1973, said: “Providing the range of services we do for Wimbledon is fantastically exciting but also a real challenge. It is important that senior management understand the responsibilities of front line employees, who work tirelessly to ensure the health and safety of the public at events throughout the year. Events are inevitably very hands on and G4S Events staff at all levels pull together to do whatever it takes to make each event a success.”

Doug Hewitson, Group Managing Director, G4S Secure Solutions, UK, said: “Mark prides himself on attending as many of the events that G4S provide services to as possible. This approach ensures that he fully understands the customer’s needs and is reflective of G4S’s focus on ensuring that senior managers engage in all aspects of a project. We encourage all of our senior executives to familiarise themselves as best they can with the needs of clients and donning the officer uniform is a great way of achieving that.”
