 Virginia police have used command and control technology from Ordia to improve response times and improve safety for police personnel at major local sporting event
Ordia Solutions, a supplier of integrated, interoperable, real-time command & control systems for law enforcement and the emergency services announces the successful deployment by the Henrico Police Department of the Mobile Tactical Collaboration System (MTCS) 2009 software integrated with AdvanTraq GPS personal locator devices during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Crown Royal 400 race. Last weekend a crowd of over 100,000 spectators descended upon Richmond International Raceway, the host venue for this week’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race. The responsibility for providing a safe and secure environment for the fans falls onto the shoulders of the men and women of the Henrico Police Department (HPD). From a security perspective, HPD’s concerns are three-fold: 1. Controlling pedestrian and vehicle traffic outside the venue, 2. Maintaining civil order among the crowd inside the venue, and 3. Preventing a potential terrorist attack. Thankfully, there were no incidents of terrorism last Saturday, as NASCAR superstar Kyle Busch surged to an impressive victory. However, maintaining civil order presented its challenges, as police responded to a wide variety of incidents including several physical altercations between spectators. HPD deployed the Ordia Solutions system to share a real-time common operating picture between the Police Mobile Command Post and the Unified Command Center, where information could quickly be shared with other agencies including Henrico Fire and the Virginia State Police. The AdvanTraq GPS devices, which were fitted to each of the police bicycle and arrest teams, gave commanders an added capability to know in real-time the exact locations of their key resources. “The Ordia Solutions system enables a significant improvement in the way police officers manage major operations,” said Captain Humberto Cardounel, Commanding Officer of HPD’s Homeland Security Division. “The AdvanTraq GPS feature in particular allowed us to significantly reduce incident response time and provide a safer operating environment for our officers inside the venue.” “Henrico County, Virginia has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the most technologically innovative communities in the Country,” said Joe Ordia, Chairman and CEO, Ordia Solutions. “This latest deployment of the MTCS and AdvanTraq systems demonstrates how cutting-edge technology combined with solid concepts of operations can provide immediate and significant operational benefits to our first-responders.”
