Pilgrims group warns of risks to energy industry personnel due to unrest in Nigeria.

Pilgrims Group is issuing a warning to businesses with current interests in Nigeria.

Levels of violence and risk to businesses in Nigeria remain at a high, despite hopes following the country’s elections

Nigeria’s oil reserves are becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investors as an alternative source of energy. However, lack of unification between militant groups and changing demands has done little to improve the region’s security

Tactics used by these groups have included armed raids on heavily guarded facilities, both on and offshore, smaller targeted attacks against accommodation and kidnapping. This has resulted in the forced reduction of production capacity, the evacuation of families and non-essential personnel and, in the case of the Filipino government, the banning of its nationals travelling to the country to work as labourers.

Companies hoping to operate in the Delta region must consider themselves as at high risk, with a direct threat against their personnel and operations.

The overall security threat, particularly against energy companies, remains high.

Pilgrims Group staff comprise ex-Special Forces operatives continually operating in the world's hot spots, including Iraq, Nigeria and Afghanistan. Their experience and continual presence in the heart of these high risk areas enables them to provide up to the minute Information Services, Risk Assessment and Security Consultancy to corporate clients, as well as Guarding and personal security services.
