AirDefense becomes the first vendor to offer IPv6 support for its wireless intrusion detection system
AirDefense is the first wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) provider to add support for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6). Over the next decade, IPv6 will replace IPv4, which has been in use for the past several decades for all Internet-based communication. IPv6 is the next-generation protocol that enables new applications for IP telephony, video/audio, interactive games and e-commerce to pass smoothly through enterprises. In addition, the number of Internet Protocol (IP) addresses being supported by IPv4 is expected to run out, and IPv6 will allow for virtually unlimited internet addresses, allowing more space for the wireless domain. The US Government has mandated support of IPv6 for all agencies to realize the security and capacity increases that the protocol offers. Several of AirDefense’s government customers are already operating IPv6 networks. In addition, information technology companies doing business with the federal government are mandated to support IPv6 to prepare for the future of new net-centric devices. “As the leading WIPS partner for high-security defence agencies, AirDefense will continue to devote a significant amount of time to developing features that are important to defence customers. AirDefense has repeatedly demonstrated this commitment with Common Criteria certification, agency-specific compliance reports and DoD 8100.2 policy verification,” said Kevin McCaffrey, director of federal programs, AirDefense. “The recent introduction of full IPv6 support in AirDefense appliances and sensors is the most recent illustration of our dedication to the requirements of DoD customers.” AirDefense recently received a ‘positive’ rating from Gartner in the independent research firm’s ‘Marketscope’ report on wireless intrusion prevention systems vendors. In May 2008, AirDefense was named the 2008 Frost & Sullivan ‘Market Leader’ for global wireless intrusion detection and prevention systems for the second consecutive year. AirDefense Enterprise 7.2 also recently received Common Criteria certification to Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2) from the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP). In February 2008, AirDefense received the only ‘Best Buy’ rating from SC Magazine amongst wireless intrusion prevention software companies in an independent product review. Also, the Technology Association of Georgia named AirDefense one of the Top 40 Most Innovative Technology companies for 2008. AirDefense also received the only ‘Readers Choice Award’ amongst wireless intrusion prevention companies in 2007 from Information Security magazine. In addition, AirDefense owns all dominant patents in the area of wireless intrusion prevention and wireless troubleshooting. |
