The 3rd Man focuses on providing transactional security for retailers both with card terminal transactions and CNP (Card not present) transactions on the internet. The service includes fraud screening and analysis along with sophisticated reporting software that enables the rapid detection of fraud rings.
Both organised and casual fraud are prevented using the 3rd Man services and currently has a greater than 95% success record.
Fraud prevention specialists, the 3rd Man, is questioning the latest fraud figures released by APACS, particularly as the losses announced need to include fraudulent transactions on non-UK issued cards, and this is not clear.
Online fraud will be harder to accomplish during this festive season thanks to the National Fraud File set up by the 3rd Man earlier in the year and which is now tracking fraudulent behaviour and providing fraud protection in the run up to Christmas.
The Third Man comments on the extent of the vulnerability exposed by the recent data loss by Revenue and Customs, re-assuring that with adequate retail protection in place, point of use fraud is unlikely.
