The National Security Inspectorate grew from the merger of NACOSS which was a standards body for the alarm industry and ISI which was and inspectorate for the manned guarding industry.

Now, the NSI provides a standard setting role for these areas and for fire protection. The mission of the NSI is to improve standards in both the fire and security industries and provides approval certification to suppliers in these markets.

To achieve certification, companies must prove on-going competence, meet European and British industrial standards, have comprehensive liability insurance and have a screening system in place for security staff members along with continuous training and development.
